Here are the highest priced items sold in the last two months in the vintage Barbie category on eBay.
The highest priced doll was this 1959 #2 brunette ponytail Barbie. She sold for a “Buy It Now” of $6,495. She was sold in her original box with all of her original accessories. The seller stated she had acquired her from the original owner.
I was watching this listing with interest, because it reminded me so much of this #1 Barbie in Wedding Day Set who sold for 6,100 in 2009. I was surprised that essentially the same doll sold for $300+ more now, as it seems the prices of so many items are lower now than they have been in the past.
The third highest priced doll was this gorgeous #1 blonde Ponytail. She was sold with her original swimsuit and sold for a “Buy It Now” of $5,900.
The seller stated she was missing a copper tube from her leg and had her ponytail retied and curled and her lips retouched, but was otherwise in great condition.
Fourth on our list is another blonde #1 ponytail. This one sold for a “Buy it Now” of $5,500.
She was all original (un-retouched) and came from her original owner. She was sold naked with only her original earrings.
Fifth was another blonde #1 ponytail. This one received 36 bids and sold for $5,260.
She was dressed in Picnic Set and had her box and stand as well. I don’t think this was a “dressed boxed doll”, just a doll who was dressed and also had a box. (Good luck explaining that one to a non-Barbie collector!)
Next was this brunette #2 ponytail Barbie. She sold for a “Buy It Now” of $5,000.
She came with her original box and liner, swimsuit, booklet and stand.
Number seven on our list is yet another #1 Ponytail Barbie. This one a brunette who sold for $4,999 after receiving two bids.
The seller stated this doll was from the collection of the late Susan Manos, who at one time wrote Barbie price guides. You can read more about her, including a note from her daughter here.
The seller stated Susan’s daughter Carol is selling the collection to raise funds for her nonprofit organization for cats in Grand Rapids, Michigan called “Carol’s Ferals”.
Next is our last ponytail of the top ten. This one is a #1 blonde who sold for a Buy it Now” of $4,900.
The seller stated:
“a 1959 #1 blond Barbie, consigned from the original owner. Barbie is in wonderful condition, as her pictures tell. With bright, original ultra-soft hair and original heavy black eyeliner & original blue top liner, she still retains her original flesh tone with no fading, very rare for a #1. Lips have been minimally lined where they were rubbed off, and her left brow has been slightly filled in.
All limbs and head are tight and snap…I can see no damage to her, and she has a delicious crayon smell about her clean shiny body. She comes with her VHTF original gold hoop ear rings, original striped swimsuit, and vintage Japan black heels with holes. Stand is a repro; works fine, because Barbie’s foot holes are open & tubes are present, not crushed or pushed up.”
Our first non-ponytail in the top ten is this Japanese Side Part American Girl with platinum hair. She received 14 bids and sold for $4,838.88.
She was wearing Gala Abend and also had her original box.
Number 10 is our first Bild Lilli doll. This one is a 7.5″ Lilli in an original outfit called Apres-Ski. She sold for a “buy it now” of $4,499.99.
