New! Barbie Social Networking Site! Come Join!
February 26, 2009 by Suzanne

About a month ago, I posted this message:
Social networks are everywhere – Facebook, My Space, Twitter and now the latest trend is niche focused networks. Because of the wonderful visitors to this website and the fact that Barbie collectors are some of the nicest people on the planet, I have been thinking about starting a community site for Barbie collectors for several months. I would gladly do it if I knew that there were enough people interested in joining and participating to make it worth my time. (I don’t think a social network of one would be much fun & it would hurt my feelings if no one joined!) Plus the Barbie collectors worldwide have been so supportive of this site from day one, I would love to be able to give something back to them – a place all our own where we can meet and talk to each other about Barbie and anything else.
I was pleased with the response and today I am very happy to introduce the opening of a Barbie Social Networking site!
I hope you will consider joining us (well, it is just me right now) at Barbie and Friends.

So, I decided to post a poll to see if there is enough interest to start it up. Please vote in the poll below & let me know if you would be interested in joining a site – the site I have in mind (actually it has been set up for months, I just want to make sure the interest is here before I open it up) has a place for forums and each member has their own page and their own blog (if they desire), can upload pictures, videos, etc. It is a “full-service” social networking site.
Please vote in the poll below and hopefully there will be enough interest to open up the site. If you want use this contact form to send me your email address and I will notify you if and when the community is started.

Mod Party Becky Doll – First Prototype Reproduction
January 21, 2009 by Suzanne

The Mod Party Becky Doll is the first ever Prototype Reproduction. Becky was a Francie size doll planned to be introduced into the Barbie family in 1971. The fashion booklets from that year even have the Becky name, leaving collectors to wonder for years who was Becky and why did she never appear?

Jason Wu – From Barbie to First Lady
January 21, 2009 by Suzanne
Jason Wu, who designed First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inagural Gown, is a “new name” in fashion and everyone is talking about the up & coming designer. Most “hard core” Barbie collectors are very familiar with the name Jason Wu and have been for over a decade.
Jason Wu started designing and customizing Barbie Dolls in the late 1990s. That was at the peak of the Barbie craze and customizing Barbies was a part of that craze. Jason, high school aged then, won many awards as a young and upcoming designer.

Jason progressed from Barbie to work with Mel Odom to design for Gene. From there he moved to Integrity Toys and has been designing for dolls there for several years. There is even a “Jason Wu Doll”, sold at FAO Schwartz that he designed – including the head and body sculpt, as well as the fashion. In fact, the sales from Jason’s dolls are the money that funded his move his clothing line.
