Campus Sweetheart American Girl Vintage Barbie Reproduction

campus-sweetheart-vintage-barbie-reproduction.jpgThe first Vintage Barbie Reproduction scheduled for 2008, Campus Sweetheart, is scheduled for release on March 28.

At the recent Toy Fair 2008, Mattel unveiled 2 Vintage Reproduction Giftsets that will be available later this year.  One is a Vintage Reproduction Barbie & Ken Gift set called “Campus Spirit” that features a Blonde Ponytail Barbie wearing Cheerleader #876 (1964-1965) & Ken Doll wearing Touchdown #799 (1963 – 1965).  It will be available in June 2008.

The 2nd giftset is in celebration of Midge’s 45th anniversary and features a reproduction of the first Midge Doll (brunette) wearing Swingin’ Easy #955 (1963) and the first ever Alan Doll Reproduction, wearing  Campus Hero #770 (1961 – 1964).  It is scheduled to be released in September 2008.

Both Gift Sets will have a retail price of $99.99.

Vintage Barbie Roman Holiday Brass Compact

Vintage Barbie Roman Holiday Brass CompactConsidered by many to be the “Holy Grail” of Vintage Barbie collecting, this tiny vintage Barbie Brass Compact from Roman Holiday recently sold for $535 on eBay. The compact is very rare because the Roman Holiday ensemble was only sold for one year, 1959 – it was part of Barbie’s very first wardrobe. The compact is Barbie sized – maybe 1/4″ to 1/2″ across.

The seller of the item stated that the compact showed some wear and that the hinge needed to be repaired. In years past, mint condition compacts have sold for as much as $1500 – and based on this item, I think it would be safe to say that a compact in mint condition with the powder puff would reach $1000 or more.

Supersize Barbie

Supersize BarbieSupersize Barbie – the only 18 inch Barbie doll, was first released in 1977. She had blonde hair and the new superstar face. She came wearing a silver and white satin sweetheart neckline halter bodysuit with a matching long skirt and pants, rhinestone stud earrings, a choker, a ring and included extra jewelry – rings, earrings and choker – of white plastic and silver paint. She was wearing white ankle strap shoes and also came with a white 3-piece stand and a child’s bracelet, barrette and necklace.

In 1978, Supersize Barbie was available as a Bridal doll – these are rarer. The 1979 release of Supersize Barbie was Super Hair Barbie.

Twist ‘n Turn Barbie Turns 40

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Mod Barbie Era and the introduction of the Twist ‘n Turn Barbie Doll. Barbie and her wardrobe got a complete makeover – a new face, rooted eyelashes, longer hair in a new style and a new twist and turn waist. Know as TNT by collectors, the twist ‘n turn waist was patented in 1966.
(Note to non-collectors – 1966 on Barbie’s tush doesn’t mean she was made in 1966, it means she has a TNT waist, which was patented in 1966. If your 1966 Barbie doesn’t have a face like the one shown and has a smile with teeth showing, she is probably worthless.)
Anyway – 40 years ago – or 1967 was an exciting new era for Barbie with a complete makeover of her entire look and style.

Vintage Barbie Bubblecut Dolls with American Girl Faces

Have you ever seen a Bubblecut with an American Girl face?
They were transitional dolls, made during the transition from a side-part Bubblecut to the American Girl. The first 2 photos below are of Side Part Bubbles with AG faces, the 3rd is of a traditional Bubblecut – so you can see the difference. You can easily identify the transitional doll because her head will have the traditional American Girl markings on the inner rim of her head.

#1 Brunette Ponytail Barbie – Pink Box Dressed Doll on eBay

This gorgeous dream doll sold for $10,000 recently on eBay.

It is a Pink Box Dressed Doll (if I remember correctly, they were made as store displays and not sold to the general public). This beauty is a #1 Brunette ponytail wearing Evening Splendour #961 (1959-1964) .

I am partial to this ensemble because I still have my original one from my childhood. If Santa still visited me, I would ask for one of these!
