Here are the highest priced items sold in the last month in the vintage Barbie category on eBay.

This beautiful, blonde #1 Vintage Barbie Doll was the highest priced Vintage Barbie over the last 30 days. The seller stated in the description that her Mother purchased the doll at a doll show in the 1970s. She included her original swimsuit, box, earrings and shoes.

She received 35 bids and sold for $5650.55. I was thinking that Vintage Barbie Doll Values are dclining, because about 10 or 12 years ago, this doll would have sold for $10,000 to $15,000. However a similar Barbie doll sold in October 2009 for $4400.

The second highest priced Vintage Barbie was this gorgeous brunette #1 Barbie Doll. She is all original. The seller states that she purchased her from the original owner over 10 years ago.

She came with a reproduction stand and box and her original swimsuit, sunglasses, black open toe heels and earrings. She received 40 bids and sold for $5,300.00

The third highest priced, was another blonde #1 Barbie Doll. She came wearing her original black & white stripe zebra swimsuit and sunglasses.

She sold for a “Buy It Now” of $5,000.

Tied for third highest, yet another Ponytail Barbie Doll, this one a #2 Brunette. She also came with her original suit, earrings, shoes, and sunglasses and also sold “Buy It Now” for $5,000.

Next was a Restored #1 Brunette Ponytail Barbie. She sold “Buy It Now” for $4299.95

Yet another Blonde #1 Ponytail Barbie was next. This one sold for $3050 after receiving 28 bids. She had very slight “green ear”.

The first non ponytail on the top sellers list was a 1950s Bild Lilli – the German precurser to Barbie. Lilli sold “Buy It Now’ for $2,800.

#8 is another blonde #1 ponytail. This one sold for for $2799 “Buy It Now”. Included were her original zebra striped swimsuit along with Gay Parisienne ensemble.

Ninth was this brunette Japanese Pink Skin Sidepart American Girl. She came along with two ensembles and sold for a “Buy It Now” of $2500.

Rounding out the top ten was another brunette Japanese Pink Skin Sidepart American Girl. This one received 6 bids and sold for $2498.01

Miss America Dolls

Mattel made two different Miss America Dolls using Barbie’s Body and the Steffie head mold.

Walk Lively Miss America was sold in 1972 and 1973 and Quick Curl Miss America from 1973 to 1976. Walk Lively was also sold by Kelloggs as a mail in offer (for three dollars!) and there were three Miss America ensembles sold in 1972.

The dolls are much easier to find than the ensembles!

Barbie’s Friend Steffie Doll was introduced in 1972. The Steffie head mold is still in use today and is one of the most popular Barbie faces ever produced. There were only three Steffie dolls and all three were released in 1972.

Walking Jamie Doll was a Sears Exclusive Barbie Doll sold from 1970 to 1972. She was also available in two different gift sets – Furry Friends in 1970 & 1971 and Strollin in Style in 1972 and had two different doll cases.

In Barbie Doll History here have been numerous Types of Barbies made in since she was first introduced in 1959. With a rare exception here and there, Barbie’s body hasn’t changed much. Some may have more moveable parts, but the size and shape remains the same. Her face however, is a different story.

The Christie Doll was introduced in 1968 with the Talking Christie Doll. She was the first African American Barbie size Doll. From 1968 to 1973 there were four vintage Christie Barbie Dolls – Talking, Twist ‘n Turn, Live Action and Malibu. The Christie Doll has continued to be sold through the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and today.

The Julia Barbie Doll was one of the first Celebrity Barbie Dolls. It was introducted in 1969. Julia was a hit TV show that ran from 1968 to 1971. Diahann Carroll played Julia Baker, a widowed single Mom and Registered Nurse, in this ground breaking role – one of the first prime time shows to feature an African American woman in a non-stereotypical role.

Truly Scrumptious Doll, Truly Scrumptious Barbie

The Truly Scrumptious Doll was one of the first “celebrity” Barbie Dolls, released along with the Julia doll in 1969.

The doll is based on a character of the same name from the wildly popular kids movie, Chitty, Chiity, Bang, Bang.

There were two Truly Scrumptious Barbie Dolls – a “standard” one on the traditional straight leg Midge/Barbie body and a Talking Truly Scrumptious.

Both dolls have a Francie head with blue eyes, rooted eyelashes and blonde hair – no bangs, pulled back in a low ponytail and curled at the bottom.

PJ Dolls

PJ Dolls were introduced in 1969 when Barbie’s Friend Midge received a makeover and a new name. Using the same Midge face and head mold, PJ was more hip and mod than Midge. TNT Barbie

TNT Barbie got a new look in 1969. Twist ‘n Turn Barbie got a new hairstyle – a shoulder length flip, arguably inspired by the hit TV show That Girl which ran from 1966 to 1971 and starred Marlo Thomas with a similar hairstyle. This Barbie is often referred to as TNT Flip or TNT Marlo or even TNT Marlo Flip.

She was made from 1969 to 1971 and she received a new swimsuit each year.
