Mattel Announces Vintage Reproductions to Celebrate Barbie’s 50th Anniversary!

Barbie turns 50 in 2009 and it looks like Mattel is going all out for a celebration! A large group of Vintage Reproductions will be issued beginning in December 2008. Here is a list of the dolls - the price point is expected to be around $45.
Vintage Reproductions:
1959 Ponytail Barbie Reproduction - wearing her original Black & White striped swimsuit and will come along with a Solo in the Spotlight Ensemble - will be available in December 2008.
1962 Bubblecut Reproduction - wearing her original red swimsuit and will come along with a Enchanted Evening ensemble - will be available in December 2008.
1967 Twist ‘N Turn Reproduction - wearing her original 2-pc vinyl orange swimsuit with mesh cover-up and will come with Zokko! ensemble - available February 2009.
1971 Malibu Barbie Reproduction - wearing her original blue 1-pc swimsuit and will come with a Lemon Kick ensemble - available December 2008.
1977 Superstar Barbie Reproduction - wearing her original pink fashion & boa and will come with an additional “Superstar” fashion - available December 2008.
1986 Rockers Barbie Reproduction - wearing her original funky rock fashion and will come with an additional “Rockers” fashion - available February 2009.
Julia (Diahann Carroll) Doll Reproduction - in her Nurse outfit AND will include an additional fashion - available January 2009.
The last reproduction is of a doll that was never made! Becky was made as a prototype to be a Francie sized friend - but was never produced, although some Francie fashion labels stated “France and Becky”. There will be a Becky gift set using the vintage Casey doll face mold and it will include at least 2 additional outfits. It will be a Gold Label edition with a price around $120 - it is scheduled to be available April 2009.

Wow - July was a GREAT month for Kiddle Sellers and Collectors! Here are the highest priced items sold in the Liddle Kiddle category on eBay in the last 30 days.

The highest priced seller was this collection of the first ten Liddle Kiddles. It was listed for $1,500 and sold to the “Best Offer” for $1,405.

Next was this complete Beat-a-Diddle in a rare red outift variation. She sold for $539.99 after receiving 17 bids.

Baby Liddle Little Kiddle was listed for $800 and sld for a Best Offer of $500.

This Lucky Locket Six-Pack sold for $440 and received 11 bids. The set includes 6 of the Locket Kiddles from 1966.

Another Baby Liddle - this one sold for $412.77 after receiving 19 bids.

Liddle Red Riding Hiddle Storybook Kiddle - still in her original packaging - received 11 bids and sold for $407.99.

This set of Mint on Card Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Kiddles sold for $405 and received 14 bids.

Next was this Liddle Kiddles Rolly Twiddle, Mint on Card, was listed for $400 and sold for the best offer of $350.

Mint on Card Calamity Jiddle received 16 bids and sold for $330.99.

I could keep going there were so many great items this last month - but I’ll stop with this Surfy Skiddle - also Mint on Card - who sold for a $310 Best Offer - she had been listed for $400.

Vintage Barbie Clothing Values - July 2008

This Complete 1959 Easter Parade Ensemble was the highest priced clothing item sold in the last month in the vintage Barbie category on eBay.

The ensemble sold in less than an hour for a “Buy It Now” of $1,300.

The second highest priced clothing item was this Vintage Pan American Stewardess ensemble (doll not included). It also sold in less than an hour for a “Buy It Now” of $950.

This complete Gay Parisienne ensemble received 18 bids and sold for $839.

This collection of vintage Barbie hats and purses received 34 bids and sold for $811.89.

This NRFB Cotton Casual ensemble sold for $676 and received 15 bids.

Vintage Barbie Doll Values - July 2008

This #2 Ponytail Vintage barbie was the highest priced item sold in the last month in the vintage Barbie category on eBay.

The doll did not include the Gay Parisienne she is wearing - but did include all original accessories and a box signed by Ruth Handler sold for a “Buy It Now” of $5,450.

The second highest priced Vintage Barbie Doll was this Number 2 Brunette Ponytail Barbie - it is a “pink box” dressed doll wearing Barbie-Q - these dolls were only sold to retailers for display purposes. They were never offered for sale to the public. This one sold for $3,850 after receiving 18 bids.

This vintage 1955 German Bild Lilli (the inspiration for Barbie) was listed for $5,000 and sold for a “Best Offer” of $3,500.

The next highest priced vintage Barbie doll was this #1 Ponytail Barbie - she sold for a “Buy It Now” of $2,800.

This side part American Girl Barbie (which was listed by the seller as “Vintage 1958 Barbie Look a Like Doll ( Mattel)” sold for $2,657.77 after receiving 18 bids.

Here are the highest priced items sold in the Liddle Kiddle category on eBay in the last 30 days.

This complete set of Storybook Kiddles was the highest priced item sold in the Liddle Kiddles category over the last 30 days - it sold for $1,525, after receiving 23 bids.

This set of 6 Liddle Kiddle Lockets from 1966 in the original box was the second highest priced item. It sold for a $600 “Buy It Now”.

This 1967 Heart Necklace Jewelry Kiddle on the original card sold for $438.33 and received 32 bids.

This mint 1967 Bluebell Liddle Kiddle Kologne sold for $413 and received 22 bids. The doll is still in her original plastic packaging and has never been removed from her bottle.

This year marks the 20th Anniversary of Holiday Barbie Dolls, the 2008 Holiday Barbie is the 20th Holiday Barbie. There have been different series through the years, the first 11 (from 1988 to 1998) were the Happy Holiday Series. The series after that were called Celebration or Holiday Celebration and now they are just called Holiday Barbie.
This year’s Holiday Barbie is wearing a glamorous silver & white
gown ‘satin’ and tulle, with tiers of pleated silver lame. She was designed by Sharon Zuckerman and is the first holiday Barbie to have rooted eyelashes. Barbie is wearing the same dress in her new Christmas DVD - “Barbie™ in a Christmas Carol”. She has long silver drop earrings and her long hair is pulled back. The packaging features Christmas ornaments and snowflakes against a red foil background with suspended snowflakes in the package.
Of course there will be a matching Hallmark Ornament, it will be available in October.
There will also be African-American editions of 2008 Holiday Barbie & the Hallmark Ornament.

This mink stole for Barbie was the highest priced item sold in the last month in the vintage Barbie category on eBay. The stole, which is genuine mink and was a 1964 Sears exclusive, is considered one of the “holy grails” of vintage Barbie collecting because it is so rare. This one was sold by the original owner for $1,413.88 after receiving 13 bids. She stated it was in mint condition because she “was never allowed to play with as a kid”. |
The second highest priced item sold was this NRFB Long Hair High Color American Girl Barbie. The mint condition doll, which still had her wrist tag intact, sold with a Buy It Now of $1395 less than 2 days after it was listed. |
A mint condition Francie doll was the 3rd highest priced item sold in the last 30 days. Wearing a Japanese dress that was not sold in the US, Francie sold for $1249 after receiving 1 bid. The doll was said to be a rare Japanese Francie in mint condition - she still had her original hair string intact. |
The fourth highest price item sold was this Dress Boxed Vintage Japanese Barbie in Slumber Party #1642. |
This long haired Bend Leg Midge doll of the 5th highest price Vintage Barbie item sold on eBay in the last month. The doll is in mint condition and it looks like she ended up in the American Girl hairstyle line, instead of the Midge line - the hair on BL Midge Dolls was much shorter. Midge sold with a Buy It Now of $1,099. |

Collectible Barbie Values - June 2008

This Limited Edition Marie Antoinette Barbie from 2003, the Women of Royalty Series, was the highest price collectible Barbie sold on eBay over the last 30 days.
The doll sold with a “Buy It Now” of $900 (and free shipping!) with this item description:
“Carrying a handcrafted porcelain pair of roses, Barbie® doll is the height of royalty as Marie Antoinette who became the Queen of France when her husband was crowned King Louis XVI in the 18th century. She wears a regal blue gown and matching bodice that is embellished with touches of golden lace. Draped with golden fringe, the generous layers of her extravagant gown are decorated with golden tassels and hide her full-length pantaloons and the blue satin ribbons on her shoes. A matching hat topped with feathers completes her ensemble. She wears an extravagant rhinestone necklace that complements her dramatic ensemble.”
The second higest priced collectible Barbie sold over the last 30 days was this I Love Lucy Ethel Mertz as Santa Claus Doll. It was a 2007 Platinum Edition and sold with a $700 “Buy It Now” and this description:
“The Christmas Show, also known as Jingle Bells, first aired on Christmas Eve, 1956, and what better way to conjure both the holiday spirit and fond TV memories than Ethel Mertz dressed as Santa Claus? Based on the lovably loyal sidekick from the revered series, I Love Lucy, this is the first-ever solo Ethel Mertz doll released by Mattel. This fun Platinum Label™ beauty is based on the episode that featured flashbacks woven with newer Christmas-themed footage, in which all four main characters — Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, plus best pals Fred and Ethel Mertz — dressed as Santa Claus, only to be surprised by a visit from the real thing!”
Several other Ethel as Santa dolls were sold in the $600 to $700 price range.

Campus Spirit Vintage Barbie & Ken Reproduction Giftset

The 2008 Vintage Barbie Reproductions all have a “Campus” theme. The first doll, Campus Sweetheart, was released in March 2008.

The 2nd in the Vintage Barbie “Campus” Reproduction series is out this month. The Campus Spirit Giftset features Barbie & Ken reproductions.
The last set in the series, Campus Sweet Shop, will be out September 2008 and celebrates Midge’s 45th birthday with a reproduction Midge doll wearing Swingin’ Easy and the first ever Alan reproduction, dressed in Campus Hero. When these 2 gift sets were originally introduced, the price point was $99.99, but the final retail price for Campus Spirit is $109.95
